WFP is part of the United Nations system, and is based, together with the Food and Agriculture Organization and the International Fund for Agriculture, in Rome, Italy. It was founded in December 1961 and started its activities 1963.
WFP is voluntarily funded. The total contributions amounted in 2015 to 4,977,166,100 US dollars (as of 03/01/2016). With it more than 80 million people could be supported in 75 countries with food assistance.
